A little wildlife spotting

The Australian Platypus Monitoring Network reports that Founders Lake 'currently holds the honour of being the most productive single site [in Australia] to see a platypus'. A little patience is usually rewarded with sightings at any time of the day.

Around 81 species of birds have been recorded at the site. Native hens abound.

As well as the platypus, marsupials are also present in the form of possums, macropods (Bennetts wallabies, pademelons, pottoroos and betongs) and (very rarely) Tasmanian devils. Echidnas (a monotreme relative of the platypus) can be seen on occasions.

Tree Park Kiosk

The Tree Park Kiosk is now open every day from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Enjoy a coffee or hot chocolate, some of that legendary home made ice-cream or light refreshments. For further information please contact us.

When open, the volunteers on duty can answer enquiries about the Arboretum. At other times visitor guide pamphlets are available or you may find a volunteer working on site.

Your Wedding - Our Park

The beautiful parkland setting makes the Arboretum the perfect choice for your outdoor wedding.
The choice of sites is extensive, ranging from open spaces to secluded nooks. As the trees are planted in continental groupings it is possible to be married in the 'continent' of your choice.

You can add to the ambience by taking advantage of the different appearances brought on by seasonal changes to foliage and flowering.

There are many unique and varied photographic locations including water features, a fern glade, different arbours and bridges.  More Info »
